How do the authors (Butler, Ghosh, Lerner) use the romantic elements in their novels to drive the plot forward and promote awareness and activism against climate change? How would the absence of romance in the novels impact its message?

I like this approach for its unexpected angle: we certainly don’t tend to associate climate change with romance! I’m a bit concerned about the three-way split in focus: might be a lot to bite off in a 15-pp paper. And it’s hard to speculate about a counter-factual: how would we know what the novels would read like if they were written differently, when all we have is what’s there? But I like the overall approach. I think you’ll need to forge a thesis/argument that says something more specific about the comparison/contrast in how romance is handled, but this is a great start.
