How does the use of climate change in Octavia’s Butler’s, Parable of the Sower affect the way people look at literary fiction.

When first starting 10:04 written by Ben Lerner I found that it was hard to get into. For some reason what I was reading wasn’t resonating. I find that I struggle with this a lot when it comes to a book I’m reading. It either won’t grasp my attention or I don’t fully understand it so I don’t pick it up again. However that wasn’t really an option here so I kept going. To my surprise I found that I actually started to relate to the book.
The story starts off with our narrator who also seems to be the main character. First person perspective are what I tend to lean towards. The hungry tide’s flip flop narration kinda threw me off. Learning about our main character helps me to understand and grasp into this book a little more. One thing I really liked was the little things to include Brooklyn. When he mentions the N train which is the daily train I take, Christa McAuliffe School school where many of my elementary friends ended up attending, and bringing up Canal St which is where I get off for work. In an odd way this made me like the book more. The last two books we read I didn’t really understand the environment or time period. But with 10:04, this is more up my alley.
Our main character and his best friend were currently living in NYC as a storm was coming. They talked about how they went back to Alex’s house with the supplies, taking one more shower before filling the tub and listened to the news for updates. This offered a sense of nostalgia to me. I remember when my family came to shelter with us and I was so excited, of course I was younger so I wasn’t filled with fear the way I would be now, but I was happy to see my family. I remember everyone being together and having a good time, and it brought me back to my Uncle. These emotions made me feel more connected to the story. And I’m glad that what started off confusing and honestly overwhelming was able to bring me back to a certain memory and a sense of inclusion I could almost say. I am looking forward to where this novel may go.

How does the lack of attention towards climate change affect our future generations?
Possible Final Research Question.
With one story being about a world affected by climate change and another where people are trying to stop it. One has to question how diverse the view of climate change truly is?

How does the idea of the earth seed highlight the central issue within Parable of The Sower? How does it critique and diverge from christianity?
